Writing and solving equations

Write the equation then solve the problem.
1.       A school will hold a Thanksgiving dinner on November 24th to celebrate what families are thankful for during this year. 276 students have already confirmed their presence two weeks ago. The school has 536 students in total. There are X students that have yet to confirm presence.

2.       If the total number of people at the Thanksgiving dinner will be 1023 and it is known that 536 are students. There are Y people that will be in the dinner who are not students.

3.       The staff that is organizing the dinner has already got 483 chairs. 1,023 people have confirmed their presence until now. Staff will still need to provide X number of chairs.

 4.       By the end of last week 276 students have confirmed their presence to the Thanksgiving dinner. If each student brings 4 people to the event, how many people in total will be at the event?

5.       There are around 1,050 people showing up for dinner.  The school has to organize the tables.  If there are 150 tables available. How many people can sit at each table?

Solve these equations:

1. 8 = 2y

2. w + 8 = 9

3.
h
3
 = 1
4. h + 2 = 18

5. k + 10 = 18

6. 2 = j – 10
