Line Graphs

The line graph below shows people in a store at various times of the day.  (Title)

Summarizing graphs.

Homework
Summarize the graph below.
It is based on a survey of 70 students.

A sample response.

The graph used is a bar graph and it is based on a survey in which 70 students participated. The graph’s objective is to show the most favorable pizza topping of those 70 students.

The majority of the students prefers the pepperoni, but a close second is the sausage topping, mushroom and olive topping and the cheese topping wrap up the graph sitting on last and penultimate place.

In conclusion, pepperoni in first being the most preferred, followed by sausage, mushroom and olives and finally cheese.

Summarizing Graphs

Resultado de imagem para types of graphs kids

The graph used is a pie chart and shows the eye colour of students in a class. The chart considers three colours of eyes: brown, blue and green.

The graph shows that half of the students in the class have blue eyes. The other half of the class have brown or green eyes. However, there are more students with brown eyes than green eyes.

In conclusion, the majority of students have blue eyes, followed by brown eyes and the fewest students have green eyes.

The graph used is a bar chart and shows how long animals can hold their breath. It considers whales, dolphins and seals. The time used is minutes and the range is gfrom 0 to 20 minutes.

From the graph we can see that whales can hold their breath for almost 20 minutes, Dolphins can hold their breath for 12 minutes and seals for 7 minutes.

In conclusion, whales can hold their breath for the longest period and seals for the shortest period.

Describing Graphs

1 Introduction (Here you say what the diagram is about. )

The pie chart is about the pets in Year 7. The chart is divided into 4 parts and each part represents one class of Year 7.

2 Message of the diagram

The largest number of pets are in form 7GI. There are 16 pets.
The second largest number of pets are in form 7HK. There are 8 pets.
So there are more than twice as many pets in form 7GI.
The chart shows that there are only 2 pets in form 7CS and 3 in form 7VR.

3 Conclusion

So we can say that the most pets of Year 7 are in form 7GI and the least in form 7CS. There are more than 50 per cent of all the pets in one form - form 7GI.

Writing and solving equations

Write the equation then solve the problem.
1.       A school will hold a Thanksgiving dinner on November 24th to celebrate what families are thankful for during this year. 276 students have already confirmed their presence two weeks ago. The school has 536 students in total. There are X students that have yet to confirm presence.

2.       If the total number of people at the Thanksgiving dinner will be 1023 and it is known that 536 are students. There are Y people that will be in the dinner who are not students.

3.       The staff that is organizing the dinner has already got 483 chairs. 1,023 people have confirmed their presence until now. Staff will still need to provide X number of chairs.

 4.       By the end of last week 276 students have confirmed their presence to the Thanksgiving dinner. If each student brings 4 people to the event, how many people in total will be at the event?

5.       There are around 1,050 people showing up for dinner.  The school has to organize the tables.  If there are 150 tables available. How many people can sit at each table?

Solve these equations:

1. 8 = 2y

2. w + 8 = 9

3.
h
3
 = 1
4. h + 2 = 18

5. k + 10 = 18

6. 2 = j – 10

Algebra Basics: Solving Basic Equations Part 1 - Math Antics

Mounting an Algebraic Equation

Each sentence expressed as an algebraic equation.
SentenceAlgebraic Equation
A number increased by nine is fifteen.x + 9 = 15
Twice a number is eighteen.2x = 18
Four less than a number is twenty.x - 4 = 20
A number divided by six is eight.

1. Twice a number is 28 is the same as 2x=28.

2. Three is 21 divided by a number is the same as 3 = 21/x

3. Twelve is sixteen less than four times a number is the same as 12=  4x - 16

Group work

Now it is your turn to write the following problems as equations then find the value of x.

1. Jeanne has $17 in her piggy bank. How much money does she need to buy a game that costs $68?

2. Helen is x years old. In thirteen years she will be twenty-four years old. How old is Helen?

3. Suzanne took  x  dollars from her savings account to buy some presents for Thanksgiving.
Her old balance was $350, and her new balance is $280. How much did she spend?

4.A large pizza pie with 15 slices is shared among x students so that each student's share is 3 slices.
How many students are there?
